1) Why should I learn Spanish?
Learning an additional language is always good, and with 30 million Spanish speakers living in the United States, Spanish is in high demand. Employers are often looking for bilingual individuals, so it is skill that you can make you more marketable. Finally, learning another language can give you a great sense of accomplishment.
2) Is the Spanish spoken in Spain different the Spanish spoken in Latin America?
Yes and No. It’s the same language, but every regional area, just like English, has its own unique accent. For example, the English in the United States is slightly different than the English in the U.K, but if a person from the United States travels to the Great Britain, he or she will be able to communicate with very few problems. It would be the same for a Spaniard traveling to Mexico. So if you learn Spanish, you will be able to communicate in Spain and Latin America.
3) Is Spanish Difficult to Learn?
I think this depends on the individual. In my opinion, Spanish is easier to learn than many languages because many of the words are similar. This, however, does not mean that Spanish is not challenging. The grammar varies greatly from English, and things are often expressed in a different manner. If it were easy, everyone would learn it.
4) How long does it take to become fluent in Spanish?
This depends on the individual, their learning capacity, and how much time they actively put in to studying and speaking Spanish. I think it is possible for a deciated learner to become close to fluent in roughly a year to 18 months, but for others it may take a little bit longer. I think some Spanish Learning programs can help, but there is not a program out there that it is going to make you fluent in a week.
5) How Many Countries Speak Spanish?
Including Spain and Latin Ameica, 19 countries speak Spanish. This is not including Puerto Rico, which is a US territory, and the 30 million Spanish speakers located here in the United States.
